ABOUT MONIQUE HARDING
Hi! I'm Monique. I'm the Owner of Ritual Counselling & Family Therapy. I'm a Couple & Family Therapist and Accredited Clinical Mental Health Social Worker based in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
I'm passionate about empowering people to rediscover joy, belonging and ultimately, their optimum mental wellbeing. I believe that we can all live a life of happiness and that healthy, strong relationships are core to our overall wellbeing and sense of belonging in the world.
My Experience in Mental Health and Counselling
I practice a modern approach to mental health counselling. My therapeutic approach incorporates a wide range of techniques & different ways of working with you to best achieve your therapeutic goals. These may include supportive counselling, trauma resolution & skill development in emotional regulation/management and/or brain based psychotherapy. I also include non-verbal and expressive therapy methods if talk-based therapy is confronting, such as yoga and mindfulness.
I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies, primarily that of systemic therapy models, solution focussed, narrative approaches and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I have also completed Radical Exposure Tapping, Level II (Advanced Practice) training.
I have worked across a range of government and non-government mental health services providing psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment to both adults and children and their families. .
Academically, I completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology and Business. I spent a few years post-graduation in the organisational development and leadership world within big business before returning to university to complete a Masters of Social Work. I then completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Therapy. Yes, I've spent 10 years studying to be the therapist I am today!
From a professional development perspective, I have engaged in extensive therapeutic and psychological intervention training. This is something that I not only believe in (given how much new psychological research is being generated each and every day) but something I truly love! From a couples therapy perspective, I am trained in Gottman therapy (which is one of a very limited number of evidence based approaches to working successfully with couples). More broadly, I have completed extensive training in systemic and structural family therapy, dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), Theraplay, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, circle of security parenting frameworks and attachment based family therapy.
Outside of the therapy room, I live by the beach with my dream surfer dude husband and two young kids. I enjoy a good HIIT session, surf as much as I can (albeit quite poorly!) and drink far too many soy piccolos and not enough water.
